Mrs. Minnie Mehl founded the scholarship through Student Aid Alberta. A teacher, wife, and member of the community, Mrs. Mehl had a deep desire to aid Alberta after a lifetime of service.

Each winner receives a check for $3,500.
Study Eligibility : Dr. Ernest &Minnie Scholarship
Applying candidates must be:
- Canadian citizen or long-term inhabitant
- An Albertan resident must have finished Grade 12 in Alberta and be enrolled in a degree-granting post-secondary institution outside of Canada.
Dr. Ernest and Minnie Scholarship Grants Selection Process:
A student’s grade 12 diploma examination results are used to establish their rank in the following courses, same as they were for the Rutherford Scholars:
- One of English Language Arts 30-1, 30-2, or
- Français 30-1
AND
- Social Studies 30, 30-1 or 30-2
Plus any three other subjects:
- Mathematics 30-1 or 30-2
- French Language Arts 10-1
- Biology 30
- Chemistry 30
- Physics 30 or
- Science 30

Application Process:
The Alexander Rutherford Scholarships are awarded to deserving students who apply. There is no need for a separate application.
